Online Guitar Tuner Microphone versus physical guitar tuner

online guitar tuner microphone

I’ve put up this site so  I could keep track of good resources for a sound online guitar tuner microphone. There are so many free apps out there that claim to be good guitar tuners but the fact is very few are. While they may be good for beginners they are simply not good enough for seasoned guitar players. Of course any good guitar player will know more or less straight away if the online guitar tuner is actually any good.

When downloading tuners online please be mindful that a lot of the sites that host free software can sometimes have Trojans, viruses etc embedded in the software. So make sure you have a good anit-virus application installed. (“As I’m sure you already do :) ”). IF you have an electric guitar then you are good to go. You can simply just plug the guitar into the usb port on the computer and the application you downloaded should pick it up straight away. You will know by either being prompted by the software that the guitar is connected or seeing some movement on needle, graph etc when you strum your instrument.

For acoustic guitars you may need an online guitar tuner microphone if the microphone on your computer is not good enough. This should not be an issue on newer machines. As people are using their computers microphone much more these days for the likes of skype etc. This forces manufacturers to install decent quality microphone. When connected you should just follow the guitar tuning instructions that came with your downloaded application. These are usually simple chord by chord instructions. Any decent software should also be able to record so you can hear back instantly the quality of the sound coming from your now hopefully finely tuned guitar.

A good free application for tuning your guitar can be got here free guitar tuner

As you are most likely aware, online guitar tuner microphone is  not your only option when it comes to tuning your guitar. There are many excellent physical guitar tuners available. Professional musicians usually use these types of more expensive tuners. It’s just one of the prices you pay if you want to be performing a that dream concert in front of thousands of screaming fans.

MY personal favourite guitar tuner is the Korg GA-40 Guitar Tuner and Baaa tuner. It is very easy to use and has some nice invaluable features like which you simply wont get from an online guitar tuner microphone.

Korg guitar tuner

Automatic pitch detection

Supports even 7 string guitars

Good LCD needle to give you accurate feedback

Sound out function that plays the reference tones through an internal speaker

Quinta Flat Tuning Mode which is used to support the dropped tuning which is used a lot in heavy metal. This allows you to tune long scale guitars which move well under the pitch range of standard guitars.

The Korg GA-40 guitar tuner can also be easily got in the like of amazon.com of any good musical instrument store. It is aslo so easy to use and I would recommend it highly for beginners. Simple as tightening and loosening the strings until the needle lines up and the green light comes on. It is also very portable. Just incase Bono or Bon jovi needs you to get on stage on one of their concerts because The edge or Richie Sambora is too ill or hung over to make the concert. We can all dream eh?

So my advice to you if you are beginning to learn guitar, don’t be going with the cheaper online guitar tuner microphone if you can at all. For less than $20 you can get a physical much more reliable guitar tuner.
